Man Sentenced to Death in 1985 Outlives All Involved in His Case

A 69-year-old man from Esigodini, Albert Gasela, has shared his remarkable story of survival and freedom. In 1985, Gasela was sentenced to death for murdering his tenant in Barbourfields, Bulawayo. However, he appealed against the death penalty, and his sentence was commuted to life in jail.

Gasela spent 22 years in prison, serving time at Chikurubi in Harare and later Khami Maximum Prison in Bulawayo. During his incarceration, his wife passed away, and he was unable to attend her funeral. Gasela was finally released in 2007 after being pardoned by President Mugabe.

In a surprising twist, Gasela discovered that all the individuals involved in his case, including the judge, prosecutor, State witness, and his lawyer, had passed away.
