A fire destroyed a boys’ dormitory at Matopo High School on July 5, 2024. The blaze damaged 52 beds and 52 trunks containing students’ belongings, including uniforms and extra clothing.
All 52 students in the dormitory escaped without injury due to the swift actions of students and staff. The school authorities have expressed relief and gratitude that no lives were lost.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Bulawayo City Council Fire Brigade and ZESA. The school authorities have promised transparency and accountability throughout the investigation process.
