Authorities in Masvingo have detained a 53-year-old man along with his three daughters following the tragic murder of his parents. The family reportedly accused the elderly couple of practising witchcraft and bringing a series of misfortunes to the family, leading to their brutal deaths.
Details that led to the tragic incident
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident occurred in Chorupanga Village in Nyajena, Masvingo. The victims were identified as Tizirai Chidinhika (77) and his wife Miriam Polisiri (92). They were the parents of the primary suspect, Rameck Chidinhika.
The fatal event took place on the morning of October 11, 2024, at approximately 7 AM, shocking the local community. The family’s accusations centred around the belief that the elderly couple’s supposed involvement in witchcraft had brought various misfortunes and hardships upon them.

Family Arrested in Connection with Murders
Currently in police custody, Rameck Chidinhika, along with his three daughters,Constancia Chidinhika (28), Vimbai Chidinhika (19), and an unnamed juvenile aged 15, are under investigation for their involvement in the brutal crime. Police are probing into the circumstances leading to the murders, and it remains unclear whether the allegations of witchcraft stem from personal family disputes or a deeply ingrained cultural belief system.
The police are urging anyone with information on the case to help aide in their investigation.
