Mop-up operations continue in Riverlands near Malmesbury, a week after severe floods damaged people’s homes and municipal infrastructure.
Last week Thursday’s dam collapse destroyed several homes and left some structures too dangerous for residents to stay in.
Hundred and seven people are currently being housed at local centres, while others have gone back home.
Water supply in the area has been cut-off and will take at least 2 months to restore.
Swartland Municipality Spokesperson Mart-Marie Haasbroek said that arrangements have been made for people to get water.
“Due to the severe damage to the municipal water supply infrastructure, the Swartland Municipality will continue to provide water to residents by means of water trucks. A water truck schedule has been shared with the community indicating to the residents where stationary trucks are located and the routes of the roaming trucks.”
