“My father was involved in a side-swipe accident with a 7-tonne truck on Friday as he was driving a Toyota Sienta to Gutu with seven passengers on board. He was hanging his right hand on an open window whilst driving, and the truck encroached into his lane. His forearm fell to the ground,” said Masiyambiri’s daughter, Patience.

Witness Accounts
Samuel Gono, a village head from Chief Makore’s area in Gutu and a passenger in the Sienta, also confirmed the horrific incident. Despite the violent collision, all passengers in the vehicle escaped unscathed.
Acting Masvingo Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu could not confirm the accident at the time of reporting.
Mushikashika drivers often carry extra passengers in the front seat, forcing them to dangle their arms out of the window for space. The crash highlighted the risks associated with such informal transport practices.
Witnesses reported that the truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction toward Masvingo, briefly fled the scene but returned later. Police have yet to release details on any charges or investigations related to the accident.
