A devastating road accident occurred this morning along the Harare-Masvingo Highway, involving a commuter omnibus carrying boarding students from Mutero High School in Masvingo. The students were returning to school for the second term when the kombi experienced a burst tyre and overturned near Munyati River Bridge.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident occurred at the 106 km peg along Harare-Beitbridge Road near Chivhu. The kombi was carrying school children from Mutero High School in Gutu, as well as the driver and a parent. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned three times before landing on its wheels.
The accident occurred at around 10:00 hours this morning. Fortunately, all vehicle occupants are receiving treatment at Chivhu General Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet clear.
