New South Africa Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber Orders Buses To Deport Illegal Immigrants

The newly-appointed South Africa Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Leon Schreiber, has revealed that he has ordered new buses to deport illegal immigrants.

President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Schreiber to one of the country’s most coveted and critical ministries last month. Schreiber, from the Democratic Alliance, landed the post after his party entered the Government of National Unity (GNU), consisting of 11 political parties.

The Touchy Issue Of Foreigners In South Africa

Initially, there were speculations that a DA Home Affairs Minister would not take a hard stance on immigration. Last month, the party’s Federal Council chairperson, Hellen Zille, expressed opposition to expelling Zimbabweans possessing the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP), saying the Home Affairs department should regularise them.

However, it appears the DA Home Affairs Minister is staunchly against illegal immigrants. Last week, Schreiber told the South African parliament that his department would raid restaurants and spaza shops, among others and clean them of illegal immigrants:

“In the coming year, Home Affairs will increase the number of inspections at restaurants, spaza shops, farms and mines by over 50% in order to take action against people illegally employed, including through deportations.”

It appears Schreiber is setting his plans in motion.

Following through on his announcement last week, Minister Schreiber disclosed that he has ordered buses to deport illegal immigrants.

He revealed on SA’s Power987 that he had ordered ten new buses, which are now being manufactured. The buses are to help with the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Schreiber added that his department is in contact with other governments to help repatriate their nationals living in South Africa illegally.

The plans elicited mixed emotions online.

Mthwakazi:

“This method will cost the gov millions per week in terms of resources needed. 10 Buses will drive to Nigeria, Congo, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malawi, etc.”

Zack:

“What happens to deportees when they get to their countries? Do they get punished? What measures are taken by their countries to avoid repetitions?”

Mandla:

“They will be deporting the same people over and over again. It’s just a waste of resources.”

Allettaha:

“At last, Home Affairs is working as it should. So many of us will be so relieved.”

Thabo:

“Deportation is easy, but our borders are open and not guarded. Every day, Zimbabweans are coming to S. Africa.”

Galaz:

“But what are his plans on our porous borders, the rampant corruption in his department, and the millions of aliens running around our country with fraudulent papers and even running businesses??”
