Ngizwe Mchunu under fire over disruptive behaviour on a plane – WATCH

Popular South African radio personality and sangoma, Ngizwe Mchunu has been lambasted for allegedly creating havoc on an aircraft.

A video of the controversial former Ukhozi FM presenter singing, chanting, and shouting at a FlySafair flight attendant went viral on social media.

Mchunu can be heard telling the flight attendant it is tradition to bow at King Shaka International Airport.

Mchunu told the publication he was embracing his tradition and felt it was his right to express it wherever he goes.

“Next month is heritage month and we as Africans exercise our right to embrace our different cultures and traditions. Why do Africans always get oppressed in everything they do culturally? I did nothing wrong.”

FlySafair marketing officer Kirby Gordon said: “The cabin crew on flight FA169 encountered a group of passengers whose behaviour was disruptive and in violation of standard aviation safety protocols, including adherence to safety belt signs.

“Our safety and security team is finalizing its review of the incident. Appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with our procedures, which may include barring the individuals involved from future FlySafair flights.”

This is not Mchunu’s first airport drama.

In 2011, he was stopped by officials at King Shaka Airport asking to inspect a traditional Zulu shield in his possession.

Mchunu launched a R10m lawsuit against agriculture department official Thalamothalo Phaka, Sars customs officials and Acsa.

He claimed Phaka threatened to destroy his shield because it was “infested with foot-and-mouth disease”.
