President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa has not been put under pressure not to accept any trade relations with China. President Ramaphosa says Pretoria is economically and politically sovereign.
He says South Africa deals with other countries on a bilateral basis. The president was addressing the media in Beijing, on the margins of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit.
“South Africa has not been lobbied by anyone not to accept investments from China. South Africa is a sovereign country and we want to remain sovereign both politically and economically and when it comes to foreign policy as well. And we do this in recognition of the understanding that like any other country, we want to respect countries that we deal with and we would like those countries not to impose their will on South Africa,” says Ramaphosa.
