Outrage as Video of Teen Assaulting Grandmother Goes Viral
The 19-year old teen who was caught on camera assaulting his grandmother in the kitchen has been arrested.
The teen who has since been identified as Luluvo Ngqaza sparked outrage after a video of him savagely resulting his grandmother went viral.
Teen Arrested for Assaulting Grandmother in Western Cape
The Western Cape police have apprehended Luluvo Ngqaza for assaulting his grandmother.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the arrest, stating,
“SAPS in the Western Cape have arrested a 19-year-old suspect who is seen in this video assaulting his grandmother.”
Ngqaza was traced and apprehended in Wallecedene, Kraaifontein, and is set to face charges of assault at the Blue Downs magistrate’s court.
Video Circulation and Incident Details
The arrest comes after a disturbing one-minute video which shows Luluvo Ngqaza violently pushing his elderly grandmother, causing her to spill hot porridge from a stove emerged on social media.
The footage captures him making aggressive gestures and further assaulting her as she attempts to pick up the spilled food. The incident occurred at their residence in Kraaifontein.
Community Response and Reward Offer
The arrest was facilitated after businessman and philanthropist Malcom X offered a R100,000 reward for Ngqaza’s capture. Speaking to the Sunday World, he denounced the incident as repulsive.
“According to social media groups, the assault has been ongoing for more than two years but has never been reported,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to justice.
Victim’s Condition and Social Media Backlash
Following the assault, the grandmother was admitted to the hospital and treated for the injuries.
The incident has sparked massive criticism and outrage on social media, with many demanding severe punishment for Ngqaza.
