Police Minister Mchunu & Commissioner Masemola to visit Lusikisiki in wake of mass shooting

Police top brass will on Tuesday visit the scene of the Lusikisiki massacre in the Eastern Cape.

This is where gunmen stormed two homes, killing relatives in the early hours of Saturday morning.

This mass murder also coincided with the police ministry’s visit to the province where a number of programmes were held in an effort to fight crime.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, his deputies, Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo, alongside national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, will also meet some families of the victims.

Ministry spokesperson Kgamogelo Mokgotsi: “The visit will take place following the shocking incident in which two homesteads in the same street were targeted in the early hours of Saturday, leaving 17 people dead. An 18th victim, who was in a critical condition, has since passed away in hospital.”

She said that this would be followed by the community.

“Following the visit, the ministry and the national commissioner will address the community to discuss this devastating incident and provide information on the measures being taken to ensure the safety of the area and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
