Police Release Names of Harare Building Collapse Victims and Damaged Cars
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the identity of the person who tragically lost their life and the names of those who sustained injuries when a building collapsed in Harare’s central business district this past Saturday.
Earlier reports circulating on social media had raised concerns that four individuals might have perished in the incident, but the police statement has now revised that number to one.

Chilling Detail Emerges: Victims Were Standing Outside the Building
Police said the victims of the building collapse were standing on the pavement outside the building seeking shelter from a hailstorm. Additionally, three vehicles suffered damage as a result of the collapse.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a sad incident in which one person died whilst six others were injured when a building along Chinhoyi Street in Harare Central Business District, near Gulf Complex, collapsed while the victims were on the pavement of the building hiding from a hailstorm on 06th April 2024 at about 1530 hours. Three vehicles parked in front of the building were also damaged,” part of the statement reads.

Police Identify Harare Building Collapse Victims
The deceased victim has been identified by her next of kin as Yolanda Hodzi, an adult female from Maridale in Norton.
The injured victims are:
- Kudzaishe Mafauna (20), a male adult of Ushewekunze, Harare
- Trywell Leadmore, a male adult of Adlean, Westgate, Harare
- Wadzanai Baureni, a female adult of Waterfalls, Harare
- Brendon Madondo, a male adult of Unit K, Chitungwiza
- Conilias Chiwaka (41), a male adult of Ruwa
The deceased victim’s body was transported to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while the injured individuals were admitted to the same hospital for medical treatment.
The damaged vehicles involved are a Mazda 323 with registration number AAW 5934, a Toyota Probox with registration number AGE 8052, and a Toyota Spade with registration number AGN 6805.
Police and NSSA Investigate Harare Building Collapse
The police have stated that the value of the damaged property is yet to be determined. They are currently collaborating with relevant authorities, including the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), to investigate and establish the cause of the building collapse.
