Police on high alert in Westdene & Westbury amid protests

Police are on high alert in Westdene and Westbury, where residents have embarked on a protest.

Demonstrators have taken to the streets over prolonged water outages.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said the situation is calm, although several roads have been closed.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and use alternative routes.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said: “The intersection of Perth Road, Portland Avenue and Harmony Street in Westbury is currently blocked due to ongoing protests. Burning rocks, tyres and debris have been placed on the road, causing significant traffic disruptions.”
