Police open inquest dockets after deaths of 5 children in Naledi, Soweto

Gauteng police have opened five inquest dockets following the deaths of a group of children in Naledi, Soweto.

This after five children, aged between six and ten, died on Sunday after consuming snacks bought from a local spaza shop.

Investigations are still underway, with police trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The Gauteng education department is also providing psycho-social support to the schools which were attended by the children.

Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi: “The police have opened an inquest docket after five kids aged between six and nine years old were declared dead at the local clinics on 6 October 2024. The circumstances that led to the deaths are unknown at this stage pending police investigations.”
