Divers from the Ekurhuleni Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the bodies of two men in Thembisa.
On August 6, around midday, the divers were deployed to the Kaalspruit River in Ivory Park.
They recovered the body of a man with gunshot wounds from the river.
The following night, on August 7, officers were called to Ngwasheng Street, Hospital View, Thembisa.
The body of an unknown man was floating in contaminated water at the bottom of a deep trench.
“Because of the high risk of the steep sides collapsing and working in the dark, they called off the recovery until the morning of August 8,” said Rapid Response Services spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.
“Officers were on site first thing this morning.
“With the assistance from K9 Search and Rescue, they walked downstream to gain access into the trench bed.
“Officers then walked back upstream to recover the body and carried the victim out on a Stokes basket (stretcher),” said Giblin.
He added in both incidents; the team handed the bodies to the detectives and Local Criminal Record Centre members on the scene for further investigation.
