Police Release Names Of The Victims Who Perished in the Harare-Mutare Highway Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has revealed the names of the victims who died in the road accident involving two buses, Tenda and Phils & Pats.

The accident occurred at the 32-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road near Mutangadura on Thursday, 6th June 2024, at around 12:50 hours.

Four people died in the accident, while 14 others were injured.

Police Provide Detailed Account of Harare-Mutare Road Accident

In a statement shared on their official X account, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provided further details about the accident.

According to the police report, a Freightliner truck heading towards Marondera was driving in the outer lane. The truck then abruptly turned right, cutting across into the inner lane directly in front of a Tenda bus also traveling towards Marondera. The bus had been preparing to overtake the haulage vehicle.

The sudden manoeuvre by the Freightliner resulted in the Tenda bus colliding with the truck’s trailer. The impact caused the bus to veer into the opposite lanes, where it then crashed head-on with a Zhong Tong bus owned by Phils and Pats Bus Services. That bus was carrying 25 passengers and was headed towards Harare.

The catastrophic collision claimed the lives of four individuals and left 14 others injured.

Police Identify Victims in Deadly Harare-Mutare Bus Crash

In the statement, the police also released the names of three of the four victims who perished in the tragic accident.

  • Kennedy Ngoshi (40), a male adult of Zengeza, Chitungwiza.
  • Plaxedes Kasambwa (36), a female adult of Nyabadza, Rusape.
  • Monica Katena (54), a female adult of Kuwadzana Extension, Harare.

The identity of the other victim is still pending confirmation by her next of kin.

Another Fatal Accident on Mutare-Juliasdale Road Leaves 4 Dead, 7 Injured

Meanwhile, the police have also confirmed another fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 48km peg along the Mutare-Juliasdale Road.

A black Ford Ranger double cab with three passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a black Honda Fit carrying six passengers. Tragically, four people died on the spot while seven others were injured.
