The police plan to exhume the child buried at Madzibaba Ishmael’s shrine, without the mother’s knowledge, today at Lily Farm in Nyabira. Memory Mukanairi, the mother, has appealed to the authorities for this action.
The professor was buried in his family village, and his family wanted to find his possessions, including cars and other properties.
Expectations for the exhumation process
A significant police presence is anticipated at Lily Farm to ensure the smooth process of exhumation amidst concerns of possible resistance from cult members.
Furthermore, families with grievances against the cult and its leadership plan to utilize this opportunity under the protection of law enforcement to visit the farm.
Madzibaba Ishmael Legal Proceedings
Ishmael, along with seven others, including church leaders, faces charges under various acts. These include contravention of burial laws and child protection statutes.
Despite bail being granted to seven accomplices, Madzibaba Ishmael was denied bail. The court highlighted the need to distinguish the cult leader from other members.
Legal Disputes between prosecution and defence
The trial, scheduled to commence yesterday, was postponed. This was due to disagreements between the prosecution and defence regarding the readiness of the case.
The prosecution cited ongoing investigations and the possibility of additional charges, while the defence accused the state of deliberate delays.
