Two Men In Weird Attempts To See President Mnangagwa At The State House
ZimLive reported that in the first incident, Felix Togaraseyi Magureyi, 40, was apprehended after claiming to be President Mnangagwa’s father. Magureyi, whose claim is unusual given that Mnangagwa is 81 years old, arrived at State House on May 7, 2024, driving a Toyota Hilux Raider. He parked at the visitor’s entrance and began dancing in front of a police officer on duty.
When approached by the officer, Magureyi insisted he needed to see the president. Despite the officer’s attempts to manage the situation, Magureyi forced his way into the yard.
A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a pistol magazine, four rounds of ammunition, a hand-held Boafeng communication radio, a burnt bulb extract, a bunch of keys, a sjambok, and a toy firearm. Magureyi was arrested and later arraigned before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
In a separate incident on May 22, 2024, Michael Kunyeya, 29, also attempted to gain access to President Mnangagwa at State House. Kunyeya, driving an unregistered Toyota Fortuner, requested to speak with the President to discuss personal problems.
Upon his arrival, police officers stationed at the gate conducted a routine search of his vehicle. During the search, officers found a sachet of cocaine and nine empty sachets with cocaine residue. Kunyeya was immediately arrested for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
Kunyeya, who has been seen in various photos with President Mnangagwa and the Mugabe brothers, was denied bail and is set to return to court on June 12, 2024.
Daring Visitors In The Past
This is not the first time people have gotten in trouble for trying to enter the State House. In 2021, one Nigel Rutsito went to President Mnangagwa’s residence, claiming to be a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) member. He lied that he had come to report for duty. The police arrested him after he failed to show his work badge.
