Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, has issued a chilling warning to Oscar Pistorius’ reported new girlfriend, Rita Greyling. June Steenkamp, 78, cautioned that Pistorius still struggles with anger, raising concerns for the woman now romantically linked to the disgraced athlete.

Oscar Pistorius, once a celebrated Olympic and Paralympic sprint star, was sentenced to nine years in prison for fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his South African home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.Pistorius claimed he mistook Reeva for an intruder when he fired multiple rounds through a bathroom door. However, Reeva’s family believes her death was the result of a violent temper tantrum.

Speaking about Pistorius’ newfound freedom, June Steenkamp said:

“I don’t understand how this young woman doesn’t see the red flags. He was supposed to undergo anger management while in prison, but I pushed back against his release when I learned he wasn’t receiving treatment. He still struggles with anger—he’s dangerous to women.”

Reeva’s parents, June and Barry Steenkamp, previously convinced parole authorities to deny Pistorius’ early release on two occasions due to concerns about his temper and unresolved behavioural issues.

Reports have emerged that Pistorius, now 38, is in a relationship with 33-year-old Rita Greyling, a family friend resembling Reeva. Greyling, described as blonde and attractive, hails from Wakkerstroom in Mpumalanga. Sources close to the couple have confirmed the relationship, noting that both families have endured significant tragedies that have brought them closer together.

Concerns for Rita’s Safety

June Steenkamp, who remains active through the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation, expressed her ongoing fears for women who may become close to Pistorius. She stated, “It’s not about him being happy or in a relationship—it’s about the danger he still poses to women. Abuse in this country is out of control, and we must protect women from harm.”
