Today, October 15th, marks the 13th anniversary of the passing of Zimbabwean music legend Tongai Moyo, affectionately known as Dhewa.
Born in Kwekwe on March 12, 1968, Tongai Moyo rose to fame in the late 1990s with hits like “Samanyemba,” “Naye,” and “Muchina Muhombe” alongside his band Utakataka Express.
With a career spanning over two decades, Tongai Moyo released 14 albums, culminating in “Toita Basa” in 2010. He was a talented singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, and guitarist.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2008, Tongai Moyo’s bravery inspired fans through his music, particularly in “Ndinobvuma.”
We honor his memory and contributions to Zimbabwe’s music industry today and always. Rest in peace, Dhewa. Your legacy lives on.
