Popular Mzansi DJ and sangoma, Tumi “Gogo Skhotheni” Motsoeneng is mourning the death of her son Monde Jr Shange.
A statement shared on Tuesday confirmed the popular sangoma and podcaster’s son, who has been in ICU for nearly two years, died on Monday at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital.
“The families request privacy as they navigate this deep and painful loss. We ask for your understanding and compassion in giving them the space they need during this difficult time of grieving,” read the statement.
Last December Gogo Skhotheni had an inking session with a tattoo of her son.
“I did this tattoo to feel more connected and show him love because it’s difficult to express my feelings towards him while he’s on a hospital bed the whole day. One thing about my son, he smiles right through. His smile heals you. I go there to comfort him but he ends up comforting me,” she previously told the publication.
“His doctor, Dr Flack, is the best. She comes a long way with my son and she did her best.”
Gogo Skhotheni has been visiting her son in hospital nearly every day when she is not working to support him and while he was not able to make it home for Christmas last year she hoped to bring him home this year.
“It has been a difficult journey for all of us as a family but life has to carry on. He was born without a tube that transports food to the stomach so he had major surgeries. Doctors tried to make sure he could eat but they couldn’t so they ended up putting in a tube and he is using a machine to eat.”
