Security firm official arrested in connection with kidnapping of 4 family members in Western Cape

A security official has been arrested at work after the Hawks linked him to the kidnapping of four family members in August.

The 31-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court on Thursday morning, on charges of kidnapping and extortion.

The four individuals were kidnapped on 22 August and kept at the suspect’s home in Samora Machel.

They were released three days later and rescued at a filling station in Philippi East, while their vehicle was found abandoned in Endlovini in Khayelitsha.

The kidnappers apparently demanded a ransom of R400,000.

Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani: “Investigation revealed that the ransom was not paid, instead an amount of R16,000 was transferred from the hostages’ account by the kidnappers. In this matter, the 31-year-old is the second suspect to be arrested. More arrests are imminent.”
