SIU tackles claims of maladministration at Transnet

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says that it will spare no resources in its fight against corruption, as it sets its sights on another investigation at Transnet.

This after President Cyril Ramaphosa gave the SIU powers to investigate claims of maladministration at the State-Owned Enterprise (SOE).

The SIU is set to investigate any unauthorized, wasteful, and irregular expenditure incurred by Transnet, linked to the SOE’s properties.

SIU Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said that five lease agreements had already been flagged.

“The leases under scrutiny include long-term lease agreements with entities for the construction and operation of bulk fuel storage facilities at Transnet’s Ambrose Park Precinct in Bayhead, Durban.”

Kganyago said that the scope of the investigation was wide-ranging.

“The investigation will encompass any unlawful or improper conduct by Transnet officials, employees, suppliers, service providers, or any other involved parties.”
