South Africans Cry Foul After Cyril Ramaphosa Relaxes Visa Requirements For Nigerians

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has revealed significant changes to visa policies for Nigerians making it easier to travel to South Africa. These updates were announced during the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission held in Cape Town.

Among the key highlights is that Nigerians can now apply for visas without the need to physically submit their passports. Additionally, qualified business professionals can benefit from a five-year multiple-entry visa, simplifying frequent visits.

Facilitating Business and Tourism

President Ramaphosa emphasized South Africa’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Nigeria.

“Our efforts to create a favourable environment include our simplified visa process for Nigerian business people to travel to South Africa. Qualifying Nigerian business people can be granted a five-year multiple-entry visa.”

This initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage tourism and strengthen economic partnerships between the two nations. South Africa aims to attract more Nigerian visitors and business investors.

“While we’ve seen a strong foundation for collaboration, there is still room for growth,” he remarked. “We must tackle existing barriers to investment and resolve challenges faced by companies operating in both countries.”

Nigeria’s Role in South African Investments

President Ramaphosa praised the Nigerian government for implementing reforms aimed at creating a more investor-friendly climate. These changes are expected to further encourage Nigerian companies to explore investment opportunities in South Africa.

“We look forward to seeing more Nigerian companies investing in South Africa.”
