South Africans are not happy after it emerged that the Limpopo police are planning to propose a midnight alcohol curfew during the festive season.

With the festive season fast approaching, the proposed midnight alcohol curfew has sparked widespread outrage and criticism among South Africans.

Police Call for Festive Season Alcohol Curfew and Stricter Regulations to Combat Crime

Limpopo police deputy commissioner, Maj-Gen Jan Scheepers, has suggested bringing back an alcohol curfew during the festive season to address rising crime rates.

Scheepers emphasized the importance of tighter regulations to enhance public safety during the holiday period.

Speaking during an interview with Newzroom Afrika, he proposed that licensed establishments should close by midnight instead of the usual 2 a.m. or 4 a.m. He also called for stricter noise control measures to minimize noise pollution.

He argued that alcohol itself is not the problem but the way people behave when they are intoxicated.

“It’s not alcohol in itself that’s the problem; it is the way people behave when they use alcohol. If people can drink responsibly and take responsibility for themselves, as well as their family members and friends, we can have a festive season everybody can enjoy.”
