SRC Approves MMA Champion Themba Gorimbo’s Request to Use Zimbabwe National Colours on His Fight Gear Kit
The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has finally granted Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) athlete Themba Gorimbo permission to use Zimbabwe national colors on his fight gear.
Themba Gorimbo Criticizes Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry, Receives Approval to Feature Zimbabwean Flag on Fight Kit
This approval comes after Themba Gorimbo slammed the Minister of Sport, Arts, Recreation and Culture Kirsty Coventry for not approving his request to feature the Zimbabwean flag on his fight kit gear.
Themba Gorimbo went into rant and labelled Kirsty Coventry as the worst Sports Minister the country has ever had. He also accused her of letting her family and husband run the Sports department.
SRC Approves Themba Gorimbo’s Request to Represent Zimbabwe with National Colors in MMA Competitions
In a statement, the SRC informed Themba Gorimbo that his request to wear national colors when representing Zimbabwe during Mixed Martial Arts competitions and related events has been approved.
The statement further stipulated that in event that he wants to change his kit he would have to seek approval.
“I make reference to your application for approval to wear national colours when representing Zimbabwe (as a Mixed Martial Arts athlete) dated 22 February 2024.
The Sports and Recreation Commission is pleased to advise that the Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Kirsty Coventry, has authorized you to wear the national colours of Zimbabwe during Mixed Martial Arts competitions and related events.
The approved colours are as presented in your application, above. Kindly note that any change in the kit will require our prior approval.
The SRC wishes you all the success in your sporting endeavours,” reads the statement
MMA Star Themba Gorimbo Expresses Joy as Permission to Use Country Flag on Fighting Kit is Granted
Taking to X account, Themba Gorimbo expressed joy that he finally been granted permission to use the country flag on his fighting kit.
He argued that as an athlete in UFC it feels good to have the country’s flag on his gear. Themba went on offer thanks to all those stood by him and played their part to ensure that he is granted permission.
“I am truly grateful and happy my voice been heard and I get to have my country flag on my fight kit going forward. This is big. As an athlete in @ufc it feels good to see your country’s flag on your gear.This is part of the story & history. Thank you to everyone who played part,” he wrote.
