Zimbabwean midfielder Tawanda Chirewa has made a welcome return to action after spending over six weeks on the sidelines nursing a thigh muscle injury. The injury, sustained in early October, forced Chirewa to miss eight league games for his club Derby and four Afcon Qualifiers Group J matches for the Warriors.
Chirewa resumed training with the rest of the Derby squad last Thursday, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. His progress was swift, and he was cleared to play in Derby U21’s Premier League 2 match against Chelsea U21 on Friday. Chirewa started the match and played for 45 minutes, a promising sign of his return to full fitness.
Although Derby U21 ultimately lost 6-2 to Chelsea U21, Chirewa’s return to action is a boost for both his club and the Warriors. With his injury layoff now behind him, Chirewa will be looking to regain his form and make a meaningful contribution to his teams in the coming weeks.
