A 21-year-old man who went missing at a party in Highlands was found dead under the water in a swimming pool at the venue.
Wayne Gembo from Glenview 7 was found dead underwater in a shallow pool at Baobab Gardens in Highlands on the afternoon of 29 September 2024, hours after his friends could not locate him. The previous night, he had partied a storm with his high school friends at the rented house before “vanishing.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident:
“The ZRP is investigating a suspected case of drowning in which Wayne Kudakwashe Gamble (21) was found dead in a swimming pool at a house along Tedder Road, Highlands, on 29/09/24. The victim had attended a party with former schoolmates at the house when the tragic incident occurred. The body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.“
The property’s caretaker, Blessing Jonasi, who discovered Wayne’s dead body in the pool, narrated to ZBC News:
“I woke up in the morning to clean the yard. I even went to the pool and saw nothing because the water was dirty. When I was done cleaning the pool, I went out and returned after 12 pm. I wanted to clean the pool again and saw a body. I then called someone else who saw the body. I did not know that someone had gone missing the previous night.“

Wayne’s Family Speaks On The Incident
Family spokesperson Tichaona Fusire also told the national broadcaster what transpired, according to Wayne’s friends:
“They were at a private premise where they were playing in the pool and drinking alcohol. A friend said Wayne had pulled one girl into the water, dropping her phone into the pool. The girl was unhappy with this. Upon leaving the pool, they could not find Wayne, and they were about to leave.
“The friends then left, and five minutes later, they called the owner of the premises to alert him that their friend was missing. The caretaker on site then said he had not seen anyone. The boys left and did not even notify us or any of Wayne’s relatives that he was missing.“
Wayne’s parents received the call that their son had been found dead in the pool, and his mother was frantic. Neighbours drove them to Highlands, where they saw their dead son already in a metal police coffin.
The Highlands property’s management confirmed that the group booked the house and left at 9 pm. When the boys notified them of the missing person, they could not find him after a search.
