Some parents in Tsakane have told President Cyril Ramaphosa that the high rate of unemployment has seen their children resort to drugs and petty crime.
On Friday, Ramaphosa hosted his first Presidential Imbizo at the Ekurhuleni township, since being re-elected for a second term.
Ramaphosa was also joined by several ministers and other members of his national executive.
Around 50 Tsakane residents had an opportunity to speak directly to Ramaphosa on the issues affecting the township.
The familiar themes were unemployment, water provision, drugs, and crime.
Community leader, Nompumelelo Shabangu said it seemed like Tsakane had been forgotten by the government.
“We live in shacks; we don’t have electricity and our water is constantly getting cut. We live in very close quarters and people break into our places to steal. We would like for him to also keep his election promise and create job opportunities.”
Ramaphosa promised to give feedback to the community on the progress of interventions that his administration would make.
