Tshwane Emergency Services have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire that gutted parts of a power station at the start of the weekend.
This after firefighters responded to reports of a blaze on Friday night at a decommissioned power station in the west of the capital.
It is understood that the fire broke out and was limited to a switchgear room.
Tshwane EMS spokesperson, Charles Mabaso, said that the cause of the fire had not yet been established.
“At the time of leaving the scene, City of Tshwane electricity department technicians were conducting an assessment on the extent of the damages. The cause of the fire has not been determined.”
Mabaso said that a massive tactical team was deployed to the scene, with one firefighter sustaining minor injuries.
“An assortment of ten fire fighting vehicles and 26 firefighters were deployed to fight the fire. The fire was contained to the switch gear room and subsequently extinguished.”
