The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Melusi Ncube, said the Ford Ranger attempted to overtake another truck on the highway. It veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with a haulage truck towing two tobacco-filled trailers.

The impact of the collision caused the Ford Ranger to explode, trapping and burning the driver and four passengers beyond recognition. The haulage truck driver was uninjured as his heavy vehicle landed on its side.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Nyathi urged:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores all motorists to observe all road rules and regulations when travelling on the country’s roads. Above all, motorists are urged not to overtake in situations which are clearly not safe to do so.”
