In Mashonaland East, highly skilled ZRP detectives orchestrated an audacious undercover operation to arrest a stock theft cartel. Their approach involved disguising themselves as two couples, integrating into the local community, and even attending masowe at a shrine close to suspect’s home.
In response to a surge in stock thefts in Mashonaland East, Superintendent Kanhiriri formed a specialized team comprising two male detectives and two female officers. The team identified Percy Mudyiwa as the key figure in these thefts, operating from his farm and using a grocery store to launder the proceeds.

The detectives adopted a bold strategy by posing as couples and residing at a local religious shrine near Mudyiwa’s farm. Their covert surveillance led to the arrest of Mudyiwa and his accomplice, Albert Nyamuronda. Both were sentenced to 36 years in prison, with 31 stolen cattle recovered during the operation.

The same Mashonaland East team demonstrated their resourcefulness in another case. Using their established network of informants, they posed as buyers to apprehend Talent Chiigondo and Calton Mareseko, who were involved in stock theft. The operation resulted in the recovery of two heifers and the sentencing of both individuals to 18 years in prison each.
