Social Media Debates: Netizens Question the Necessity of UZ’s Screening Process

UZ’s statement has garnered a lot of attention on social media and has sparked discussion as netizens question the necessity of the screening process.

Some social media users questioned why UZ is conducting interviews and further assessing applicants. However, another section has welcomed the move, arguing that this is the best way to screen applicants, considering that there is an influx of students passing with 15 points and above.

Here are some of the reactions from social media;

@dabskays;

Even SA that has better ranked universities there isn’t this nonsense. Now with the corruption which is rife in Zimbabwe it’s another way of getting bribes for university placements. The ministry of higher education must put stop to this nonsense

@Munyah_Wacho;

We have too few universities in the country they need a screening mechanism for applicants. Ma15 points acho akuwandisa they can’t use that anymore

@_ofbeauty;

The university can’t cater for all the kids considering the fact that great numbers are doing exceptionally well. Hence there should be a screening process to select the required number…but yeah interviews are most likely going to prejudice students from B & C class xuls

@ndinonzi_tadza;

recently there has been an upsurge of fifteen pointers competing for these programs. i think this is a way of screening the students for the limited numbers required for each program. nothing to do with discrediting zimsec or Cambridge

@linstyles5273;

This undermines Zimsec as a national assessment board. Or maybe UZ, wants to become the cambridge of Zimbabwe and have their own examination board in the future
