A visually-impaired Christ Ministries pastor feels betrayed after the church evicted him recently from his home.
Visually-Impaired Christ Ministries Pastor Evicted
Pastor Obert Madoromadi, 58, had been with the church for 19 years before it chucked him out last week. Over the past few days, Madoromani has been sleeping outside and guarding his property. His children have not been attending lessons. All his belongings are heaped by the roadside along Bishop Gaul Road in Belvedere.
He expressed his bitterness to H-Metro:
“I lost my sight due to sugar diabetes, not what the doctor wants people to believe. I opened a number of branches and served this ministry for over 19 years. They have treated me ruthlessly, heartlessly, as if I am a devil.”
Why The Pastor Was Booted Out
It appears Pastor Madoromadi is a victim of factions within the church. The founder of Christ Ministries, Cuthbert Makoni, died, and there has been a battle between the founder’s mother and his son over taking over the church.
Pastor Madoromadi aligned himself with the son, Collin Zondai Makoni. He explained the factional battles:
“We are behind the son of the late founder, together with others, but they targeted me because I have been demanding an increase in our monthly allowances so as to educate our children. Imagine, they have been giving us US$3 per month while others are receiving US$50. Izvozvo zvekuti tiwedzerei mari ndiyo yandadzingirwa kuseni seni ndakarara.”
Christ Ministries secretary-general Dr Godfrey Kanyenze told H-Metro:
“Pastor Madoromadi has been evicted because of violating a court order. According to our tradition, we must respect our elders but this one was against the mother of our late founder. I am sure you are aware of the two factions where one side is with the mother, and the other one is fighting for the late founder’s son to take over leadership. This is where the problem started and Pastor Madoromadi had been at the forefront. Zvekuti haaone izvo ndezvake nekuti kusaona kwacho misikanzwa yake.”
