A Harare magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest for a woman who accused her Australia-based boyfriend of r_pe in November.
The Harare woman failed to appear in court on the first day of the trial, prompting Magistrate Sandra Mupindu to issue a warrant for her arrest. The trial revolves around allegations that Bright Nyanhete, 26, r_ped his 36-year-old girlfriend during their first meeting in Harare.

Prosecutor Loveit Muringwa claimed the complainant was unwell and unable to attend court, but the magistrate dismissed the excuse and proceeded to issue the arrest warrant.
Nyanhete, who is set to marry another woman next month, has vehemently denied the r_pe allegations, maintaining that their s_xual encounter was consensual.
“She was aware of my wedding plans and was clearly aggrieved that I was not marrying her,” Nyanhete told the court.
The court heard that the two met through the complainant’s sister, who is also based in Australia. Nyanhete reportedly sought a Zimbabwean woman to marry and initiated a long-distance relationship with the complainant. He insists his trip to Harare was for wedding preparations, not to meet the complainant.
Investigating officer Tsidzo Kaseke testified that the complainant initially reported the alleged r_pe on November 20. However, she returned to the police station on November 26, requesting to change her statement.
“She came back on November 26 saying she wanted to change her statement and when I asked why, she said her lawyer-cum-friend had told her that her statement wasn’t adequate,” Kaseke said.
The Allegations
According to Kaseke, the complainant alleged that Nyanhete r_ped her twice: first on a couch after she consumed whisky he brought and later in her bedroom. She claimed the whisky made her feel dizzy before the assaults occurred.
Nyanhete denied the allegations, asserting that they had consensual s_x on November 13 and 14. He dismissed claims of drugging her drink and suggested the accusations were an attempt to extort money from him.
