In a heartbreaking incident, two people lost their lives when their Toyota Belta became wedged under an InterAfrica bus on the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on Monday.

Details of InterAfrica Bus and Toyota Belta Accident on Masvingo-Mbalabala Road

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reported that the incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. at the 38-kilometre mark along the road. The head-on collision involved a Toyota Belta with two occupants and an InterAfrica bus carrying 43 passengers.

Both pedestrians died at the scene, and two others were injured. The victims’ bodies were taken to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured received treatment at Mashava Clinic and were later discharged.

Eyewitness Account and Social Media Reactions

According to a passenger from the bus, captured on video, the Toyota Belta, which was reportedly speeding, veered out of its lane and crashed into the oncoming bus. You can watch the passenger’s account here.

The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter), led many Zimbabweans to express their condolences to the victims’ families. However, some criticized the bystanders for filming the aftermath instead of assisting the injured.
