“Last time things were amazing here. I had so many vegetables all around here. Wode Maya came to this place. When he came, there wasn’t a lot of development but after he left we had quiet a lot going on. We had a lot of vegetables here; butternuts, we had greens, we had a lot of tomatoes here.”

Seeking Profitable Advice, Falling Victim to Scams
Before returning to Zimbabwe, he sought advice on profitable ventures and was told that poultry farming, especially roadrunner chickens, would yield high returns.
“I made a lot of mistakes and I am not afraid to admit it. For example, before I came here I was obviously asking people, ‘What can I do in Zimbabwe that can earn me a bit of money?’ One thing you will find is that everyone will tell you as if they are experts. I was told the roadrunner business is the amazing business. So I thought to myself ‘Maybe I can just go into that’. So I went into it blindly. In fact, at one point I had so many chickens. It looked like things were working out but when I sat down and i started going through the figures and everything I wasn’t really making any money,” he confessed.
He further revealed that he fell victim to numerous scams, including being sold kroilers under the pretence that they were a breed of roadrunners. Unfortunately, all the kroilers died, resulting in significant financial losses.
