#WCW – Rudo Mudavanhu – Business Executive

Our #WCW is Rudo Mudavanhu, a Zimbabwean business executive and the current acting chief executive officer (CEO) for Africom.

Rudo Mudavanhu is an accomplished Programmer and Systems Analyst, Highest Qualification attained being Masters in Business Administration (MBA) University of Zimbabwe 2011. She is a successful professional with a wealth of transferable skills gained in the ICT Industry over 14 years, 10 Years’ experience in strategic leadership, consistently delivering complex projects within demanding timelines and cost constraints.

She has managed to control multimillion- dollar investments, have been doing China Africa Knowledge Exchange through Southern Africa Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC) in areas of Social Sciences, Governance and Cyber Security. She has served on various boards including Petrotrade and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. She presides over future investments in Multimedia and Technology driven Heritage Program for the company called Nhaka TV.

She went into ICT straight from school and started as a programmer.

She was appointed Africom’s acting ceo after founder Kwanayi Kashangura, stepped down from the converged communication service provider, effective February 1, 2016. She had previously held the position of chief operating officer.

In Africom she has been a team in Project Management. She also led the Sales & Marketing Team and the revenue growth team. She has worked in Africom in various capacities managing projects selling solutions, growing the business and was at one time the sitting Chief for revenue strategies and business growth. She was also actively working in the resuscitation of City of Harare Highlands Library through the use of technology.

She was involved in a scandal where senior employees at Africom siphoned money by awarding themselves personal and housing loans.A draft status audit reported produced by accounting firm, Ernst &Young showed that Africom had set up a housing scheme for some of its employees, this despite denials on the existence of a such a facility by some employees.

The audit report also discovered that a proposal for the FBC housing scheme was only deliberated upon by the Afriocm Renumeration and Nomination Committee on March 4 2011. This was well after the payments of two housing loans for five Africom employees among them Mudavanhu who received a loan on December 18 2009.

She told auditors that while she was aware of there were funds deposited, she was however not aware of the details concerning the amount as she was not in agreement with the transaction and was not consulted before the transfer was made.
