Foreign Currency Dealer Misses Own Wedding After Getting Remanded in Custody

In an unfortunate turn of events, Lardmio Ruvisi, one of the 65 illegal foreign currency dealers recently arrested by the police, had to forgo his wedding on Saturday.

This comes after he was remanded in custody pending a bail application scheduled for today.

Police Crackdown: 65 Illegal Foreign Currency Dealers Apprehended in Harare

Ruvisi, a resident of Warren Park 1, was arrested last week during a police crackdown on illegal foreign exchange dealers. The operation targeted foreign currency dealers in Harare amid the government’s efforts to safeguard the newly introduced currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).

Arrested on Independence Day: Ruvisi’s Wedding Preparations Interrupted by Currency Trading Bust

According to H- Metro, Ruvisi revealed that his arrest on Independence Day occurred while he was seeking United States dollars to finalize his wedding preparations. He was apprehended along with 64 other illegal currency dealers during a blitz operation in Harare.

Ruvisi’s unfortunate tale unfolded when a police team observed him engaged in a currency exchange transaction at a prominent intersection, Sir Seretse Khama Street (formerly Angwa Street) and George Silundika Avenue.

Under scrutiny, Ruvisi, alongside Bianca Masvaure, attempted to transfer Buddie airtime worth ZiG130, valued at US$10. However, Ruvisi failed to complete the airtime transfer, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Social Media Buzz as Foreign Currency Dealer Misses Own Wedding Due to Arrest and Custody

Reports about Ruvisi missing his own wedding have sparked mixed reactions on social media. Netizens argued that this was very unfair as they opine that they should have released him or granted him bail so that he could attend his own wedding.

Here are some of the reactions;

@Chengwe Chikomo;

Very unfair. The system should have released him.

@Elder Ndemo;

A true reflection of the struggles an ordinary man is facing everyday!…Shame this is so sad 😥

@mcbaudy;

Mupfana wedu uyu, anga ari ma1 vanhu vaifunga kuti ari kunyepa.

@Leeman_UTD;

Why was he arrested for exchanging 10 usd to 130 zig which is more or less the same with the official rate? Are telling me that it’s a crime to look for ZIG airtime with usd whilst both are legal tenders?

@Muguriri;

He must have planned it, quite the wedding escape plan😊
