Western Cape POPCRU says murder of police officer a direct attack on the state

Western Cape’s Police and Prisons Rights Union (POPCRU) said the murder of a police officer was a direct attack to the state.

This was after an officer was shot and killed with his own service firearm while attending to a domestic complaint in Mamre on Wednesday.

According to police reports, when the officers and his partner arrived on the scene, the suspect became violent and resisted arrest.

At least three police officers have been murdered in Cape Town since January.

Provincial POPCRU secretary Pat Raolane said: “It’s really concerning but from where we are, we think this cowardice must come to an end. Police are human beings, they have families also and they must be treated as such.”
