Winky D Fights Back: The Truth Behind the 31 December Crossover Show Drama at HICC

Zimbabwe music legend Winky D has expressed frustration following an unexpected hurdle to his planned 31 December crossover concert. The star’s legal representatives, Tsunga Law International, disclosed that agreements made earlier this year with the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) have been overturned, with the venue prioritising another event on the same date.

“Winky D is Ready for His Fans”

In a statement issued on 6 December 2024, Winky D’s legal team confirmed the artist’s readiness to perform despite the setback.

“Winky D remains enthusiastic about delivering an exceptional crossover performance at HICC on December 31, 2024. His management team secured the venue as early as May 2024 and made all necessary arrangements for the show. Winky D values the connection he has with his fans and is dedicated to providing a memorable performance,” the statement reads.

However, the sudden change has created challenges.

“The venue owners have chosen to prioritise another event on the same date, which unfortunately disregards the agreement established with Winky D. Discussions are ongoing to address this issue, though we are unable to disclose further details at this time,” the legal team said.

The announcement sparked an outpouring of support and frustration from fans, who are standing firmly behind the artist.

Valerie Vanessa Musindo hoped for a resolution, saying, “We pray and hope kuti there will be arrangements for us to meet our icon on the 31st of December… Wishing you all the best.”

Vickie Mahando described the situation bluntly as “Sabotage chaiyo,” while Edmore Mposi urged, “Let’s support our father. Any venue must be filled.”

Pamelah Royal Pamz Maisiri echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Thank you for notifying us. Any venue, any date, we will fill up 💯.”

Others were ready to propose alternatives. Lennox Takue suggested moving to the National Sports Stadium, saying, “The heart stadium can be the new home ground. Tojamba takagara pama bucket seats.” Rob Tende Mupondi agreed: “It’s time to fill National Sports Stadium.”

Social media user Mazambani pointed fingers at potential political interference, writing, “Who owns HICC? It’s the government. You are all answered.” Meanwhile, Soko Simango cryptically commented, “Third force involved.”

There were also heartfelt expressions of disappointment. Charity Nyasha Tapedza said, “This is so unfair to him and us fans. We were looking forward to celebrating with him as always.”

Another fan, Nigel Simboti, was optimistic, adding, “Gaffa will always find a way. We’ll follow him wherever he goes!”

Awaiting a Resolution

Winky D’s legal team acknowledged the frustration this development has caused.

“These unexpected external circumstances threaten to disrupt what has been highly anticipated by both Winky D and his fans,” the statement concluded.

Fans now await updates as the artist works to secure an alternative plan for the highly anticipated event. As one fan aptly put it: “Hapana chichatimisa [Nothing will stop us]. Winky D or nothing!”
