ZESA’s Electricity Token System To Go Down for Currency Conversion to ZiG
National power utility ZESA has issued a warning to its customers that the Prepaid Electricity Token Purchase System will be temporarily unavailable due to a currency changeover from the Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL) to the new ZiG currency.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA, appears to be facing difficulties in transitioning to the new gold-backed currency introduced last Friday.

Since the announcement, customers have been unable to purchase electricity tokens using the local Zimbabwe currency.
However, ZESA has permitted customers to purchase prepaid electricity tokens at its banking halls, provided they are transacting in United States Dollars.
Scheduled Downtime for System Upgrade
ZETDC has announced that the prepaid electricity token purchase system will be down from Tuesday, 09 April 2024, at 2200 hours to Wednesday, 10 April 2024, at 0600 hours. This downtime is necessary to facilitate the currency changeover on the prepayment vending system.
