A 44-year-old Chinese national, Chen Mo Yun, has been expelled from Zimbabwe amid allegations of masterminding an illegal cremation linked to the mysterious death of a woman in Harare. Chen was escorted out of Harare last Wednesday following investigations that tied him to illicit activities involving cremations.
Five Co-Accused Deported Earlier This Year
In a related case earlier this year, five other Chinese nationals were fined and deported after being convicted of unlawfully cremating a woman identified as Huang Tian Song. The accused, Chen Ying (44), Xia Wexing (40), Guo Weilin (32), Yan Qi (36), and Wang Huasheng (35), admitted to their involvement in obtaining a fraudulent burial order. They claimed they had familial consent, which was later proven false.
The five men faced a penalty of US$200 each before being swiftly deported back to China, where further investigations reportedly implicated Chen Mo Yun as the operation’s ringleader.
Allegations of Mafia-Style Operations
According to sources, Chen’s deportation was requested by Chinese authorities after the five deported individuals provided statements linking him to broader illegal activities. These allegations suggest that Chen was at the helm of a mafia-like organization operating within Harare, raising concerns about his influence and the nature of his activities.
Mysterious Death and Illegal Cremation
Huang Tian Song passed away under unclear circumstances at the Trauma Centre in Borrowdale, Harare, on May 22. Following her death, the convicted individuals collaborated to secure a burial order, falsely claiming to have authorization from her relatives. The motives behind the illegal cremation remain undisclosed, fueling speculation about potential foul play or the concealment of critical evidence.
