Zimbabwean athletes Tapiwanashe Makarawu And Makanakaishe Charamba will compete in the Men’s 200m semi finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics tonight.

The two boys made the nation proud on Monday, 5 August, when they qualified for the Athletics Men’s 200m semi-finals.

 

The Impressive First Round By Zimbabwe’s Representatives

Charamba came second in Heat 3 during Round 1 of the Men’s 200m race. He only lost to Tebogo Letsile of Botswana, the third fasted 200m runner in the world this year.

Maka, who had a slow start, burst into full speed in the 100-metre stretch, overtaking a couple of athletes to clinch the second spot Monday night. He clocked 20.27 seconds.

Not to be outdone, Tapiwa also came second in Heat 5 of the Men’s 200m contest to qualify for the semis. His time of 20.07 seconds made him the fourth fastest runner in the first round of the competition. Makarawu is currently the tenth fasted 200m sprinter in 2024.

Makarawu And Charamba In The Men’s 200m Semi-Finals: Everything You Need To Know

The boys are now seeking to qualify for the Men’s 200m finals, which will take place tomorrow, 8 August 2024. Twenty-four athletes compete for eight spots in the final.

Makanakaishe Charamba, ranked 30th globally, will start his race from Lane 4 in Heat 2. He will sprint at 2010 hrs.

In his heat will be Erik Elandson (from Sweden, ranked 49th), Aaron Brown (Canada, 12th), Joshua Hartmann (Germany, 18th), Noah Lyles (USA, 1st), Fostine Desalu (Italy, 25th), Tebogo Letsile (Botswana, 4th) and Towa Uzawa (Japan, 16th).

On the other hand, Tapiwanashe Makarawu will be contending for a finals spot from Lane 7 in Heat 3. His race starts at 2018hrs.

The athlete ranked 24th globally, will battle it out with Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike (ranked 63rd, from Nigeria), Rodney Brendon (Canada, 19th), Wayde van Niekerk (South Africa, 39th), Filippo Tortu (Italy, 14th), Joseph Fahbulleh (Liberia, 11th), Erriyon Knighton (USA, 3rd) and Renan Correa (Brazil, 33rd)
