Zimbabwean Comedian Learnmore Jonasi In Tears After Winning The Golden Buzzer At AGT

US-based stand-up comedian Learnmore Jonasi was in tears after winning the Golden Buzzer at America’s Got Talent (AGT).

Jonasi has been building a name for himself in the US comedy scene since 2022. He moved to the US in 2022 after winning a grant with the Steel City Arts Foundation in Pittsburgh. Steel City Arts Foundation supports comedians worldwide by offering training and performance opportunities.

Since then, his comedy career has been on an upward trajectory. Learnmore has been touring extensively across the United States. On stage, he highlights his Zimbabwean heritage and experiences in Chimanimani, which are new to US audiences.

In 2023, Learnmore performed at the sold-out Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City, one of the most prestigious comedy stages in the world. A month later, he won the best comic at the Boston Comedy Festival, and in June 2023, he clinched the Audience Choice Award at the Jersey City Comedy Festival at Art House.

This year, he took his comedy to America’s Got Talent (AGT).

Learnmore Jonasi On The AGT Stage

Backstage, Jonasi developed good camaraderie with host actor Terry Crews. He even told him his live story, narrating how he would travel 14 hours to an event to perform for five minutes and take another 14 hours back. This story touched Crews immensely.

After getting on stage, he cracked the audience and the judges with his clear comparisons of the rural Chimanimani life and the bustling vibe of the US.

After Jonasi’s performance, the crowd gave him a standing ovation before the judges gave him flowery reviews. However, Terry Crews felt this was not enough.

He walked to the judges’ desk and smashed the Golden Buzzer, much to the audience’s delight. The Golden Buzzer is a unique feature that allows a judge or the host to express their strong enthusiasm for a contestant. It grants the contestant an automatic passage to the live shows, bypassing the Judge Cuts round.

Learnmore could not hold back his tears and fell to the ground.
