Zimbabweans Criticize Government’s Plan to Establish Vape Factory Amid Health Concerns
Zimbabweans have lambasted and criticized the government after it emerged that it is setting up a vape factory.
Plans for a Vape Production Hub
According to The Herald, Zimbabwe is poised to become a regional hub in the tobacco value chain with the establishment of a multi-billion-dollar vape production factory.
The Vape factory is reportedly going to be set up in Karoi, which is in Hurungwe.
Plans to set up the Vape factory are already at an advanced stage. The investor’s board recently convened in China to finalize the detailed plans and arrangements for establishing the factory.
Former Zimbabwean Ambassador to China, Christopher Mutsvangwa, revealed the Vape factory is going to be a very big industry.
“There is going to be a very big industry to extract nicotine from the by-products after selecting the premium tobacco leaves,”he said.
The factory is also expected to also process tobacco from neighboring countries including Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia.
Public Backlash and Health Concerns
The government’s decision to set up a vape factory has sparked widespread criticism on social media. Zimbabweans have lambasted the move, highlighting the health risks associated with vaping. Many netizens argue that vaping is potentially more dangerous than smoking and question the logic behind investing in such a venture when several countries are banning vaping due to health concerns.
Critics have accused the government of prioritizing economic gains over public health, pointing out the inconsistency in promoting a product that many health experts deem harmful.
