The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company has recently announced ambitious plans to modernize its trade exhibition center in Bulawayo. This project will involve the construction of a 5,000-seater conference center, as well as two hotels – a five-star and a four-star. The revamped exhibition center will be renamed the Zimbabwe International Conference and Exhibition Smart City (ZICES), reflecting the country’s commitment to embracing technology and global environmental standards.
The development of the ZICES is part of a larger “Visionary Masterplan” by the ZITF Company, aimed at transforming the trade fair grounds into a dynamic multi-purpose development. The 17-acre site, located near the Bulawayo Central Business District, will be upgraded to include modern amenities and facilities, making it the premier exhibition venue in the country.
One of the key features of the project is the construction of a 500-room hotel connected to the convention center. This hotel will cater to high-profile guests, including Heads of State and VIPs, providing them with world-class accommodation and services. Additionally, a modern retail shopping center will be established on the site, offering a range of retail, dining, and entertainment options for visitors and residents.
The ZITF Company also plans to create a themed park that celebrates Zimbabwe’s rich heritage and landmarks, showcasing the nation’s history and natural beauty. The development will include eco-friendly parks, pedestrianized walkways, and other amenities in line with international standards.
In addition to the new developments, the ZICES will retain over 25 existing structures of historical significance, which will be modernized to align with the overall vision of the project. The transformation of the site is estimated to cost around US$300 million, with the support of the government and other stakeholders.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, ZITF Company board chairperson, Mr. Busisa Moyo, emphasized the importance of turning this vision into reality during their tenure. President Mnangagwa has expressed his support for the project, underscoring the need to bring this ambitious plan to fruition.
