B-Metro reported that Mudzingwa has been arrested and is currently in custody at the Western Commonage police station. While Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube refrained from commenting, citing the need for further details on the case, sources close to the matter have confirmed Mudzingwa’s arrest.
Details regarding the circumstances surrounding Mudzingwa’s arrest remain unclear. However, sources familiar with the situation revealed that police took the former defender into custody on 3 April 2024, and he spent the night in police cells.
According to information circulating on social media, Mudzingwa and Denzel Khumalo, a former player for Highlanders, FC Platinum, and Chicken Inn, committed the crime.

A purported police statement making rounds on social media indicates that the ZRP Western Commonage is seeking Denzel Khumalo in connection with the theft of a cell phone at Total Shops in Mpopoma, Bulawayo. The incident reportedly occurred on 3 April 2024, around 7 pm, when Khumalo allegedly snatched a cellphone from the complainant and passed it to Eric Mudzingwa before disappearing into the darkness.

The statement read:
“ZRP Western Commonage is looking for Denzel Khumalo, who is wanted for theft of a cellphone at Total Shops in Mpopoma Bulawayo. The case occurred on 03/04/24 at around 7 pm when Denzel Khumalo snatched a cell phone from the complainant and handed it to Eric Mudzingwa, who disappeared into the darkness.
“However, Eric Mudzingwa was arrested but the cellphone was not recovered. Eric is in Police custody, assisting the police with investigations. Denzel Khumalo is still on the run. Efforts to locate him are fruitless, as he is not even picking up calls. If seen, please advise any nearest police station.”
