Five Soldiers Arrested Over The Daring US$92k Cash-In-Transit Heist At Newlands Shops In 2022

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested five soldiers over the dauntless US$92k cash-in-transit heist at Newlands Shops in 2022.

The police made all the arrests in the last 24 hours. ZimLive reported that the ZRP also recovered 12 guns from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) members who executed the bold robbery.

The publication added that the suspects are also linked to a spate of robberies in Harare.

How The Newlands Shops Cash-In-Transit Heist Occurred

On July 7, 2022, four men executed the daring heist at Newlands Shopping Centre. They targeted a cash-in-transit (CIT) truck operated by the security company Securico. The CIT vehicle was on a routine mission to refill an ATM at the Standard Chartered bank branch in Newlands.

The robbers approached the vehicle in broad daylight as the guards moved the cash. The suspects then held the security guards at gunpoint before grabbing two trunk-loads of cash, with US$91,980 and ZWL$ 514,840. After the robbery, which lasted less than two minutes, the gang jumped into their Honda Fit car and spirited off the scene.
