In a recent development, the presiding judge has stepped down from the case involving Neville Sunungurai Mutsvangwa, Elias Majachani, and Simbarashe Tichingana. The trio, who are currently embroiled in legal proceedings, had approached the High Court seeking bail after their initial request was denied by the Magistrate’s Court.
When a judge recuses herself from an ongoing case, it means that they are stepping down from the case because of a conflict of interest.
Charges Against the Defendants
Neville Sunungurai Mutsvangwa, Elias Majachani, and Simbarashe Tichingana are facing serious allegations. They are accused of engaging in illicit foreign currency transactions. Additionally, one of the charges includes the possession of an unlicensed Starlink router, adding to the gravity of the case.

It was reported that when the police went to arrest Mutsvangwa in his home, they were denied entry at first. The police had to cut his fence to get into the yard. They later found Neville hiding behind his trash, avoiding arrest. Majachani was arrested at their Mumba Money Offices, where he was found serving clients. They recovered some cash, Visa cards and some computers.
Bail Denial and Custody
Earlier, a Harare magistrate had denied bail to the accused, resulting in their remand in custody. The next hearing was scheduled for May 30th, where further proceedings are expected to take place.
